To celebrate its 50th anniversary, AMG - a sports subsidiary of Mercedes - wanted to hit hard: to create a Formula 1 carved for the road. The concept called "Project One" has just been unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Offering customers the same sensations as F1 drivers: this is the dream of Tobias Moers, boss of Mercedes. And this dream is about to be realized.
A hyper-sporty line
If AMG has accustomed us to the powerful V8, this time it is a V6 turbo hybrid that takes place on board. And this is none other than that of the Formula 1 Mercedes-Petronas. A small 1600cc of 759 horsepower capable of spinning at 11,000 rpm. But that's not all ... This petrol unit is supported by four electric motors on each of its wheels, raising the combined power announced to more than 1,000 horses by Mercedes.
The Mercedes Project One will be able to travel 25 km in 100% electric mode. At the same time ultra-sporty and "clean", a new concept.
According to Mercedes, the Project One will be able to run at more than 350 km / h, will reduce the 0 to 100 km / h in 2.5 seconds and 0 to 200 km / h in less than 6 seconds. What more can be said ! Performance made possible thanks to a high-performance engine associated with a featherweight due to a carbon case and a goldsmith work done by AMG engineers.
The front electric motors are capable of turning at more than 50,000 rpm, something rare enough to be relieved.
Giant air vents at the front, skirted floor, profiled lights, integral light strip at the rear, air intake on the roof extending on a huge rear spoiler, central exhaust: we are in front a hypercar. On the interior side, the Mercedes Project One favors its essential function and offers a sober and minimalist interior, like a real F1 car. Only 10-inch screens remind you that this is a "series" car. The F1 flywheel brings together the majority of orders. The mechanics is associated with an 8-speed automatic box and with paddles on the steering wheel.
Elite rates and limited production
As you can see, given the technical data and performance announced by Mercedes, the car will be reserved for a select audience. The advertised price is 2.7 million euros - yes, you read! And even if such a rate will remain accessible for some, the customer will be small, because the manufacturer announces a limited production of only 275 copies. Suffice to say that the Mercedes-AMG Project One is already preparing to enter the history of the automobile. It remains to know who will be happy!
Aggressive, refined, powerful, fast, environmentally friendly: the Mercedes Project One calls all superlatives. With a release scheduled for 2019, the beast will find on its way a certain Aston Martin Walkyrie, being developed with the Red Bull team. The world of F1 has not finished talking about him.
